Overview
The General Secretariat of Civil Protection coordinates Greece’s response to natural, technological, and other emergencies. The project aimed to modernize the main National Command and Control Center and establish auxiliary Covid-19 tracing centers, providing robust AV and conferencing infrastructure for real-time decision-making, information sharing, and crisis management. The system needed to support multiple departments, enable interconnection with regional centers, and allow for future expansion[1]. The Civil Protection Control Rooms now feature a scalable, resilient AV environment supporting national crisis management and Covid-19 response. The solution enables real-time collaboration, secure information sharing, and operational continuity, with infrastructure designed for future expansion and integration with regional centers[1].
The Challenge
The main challenges addressed by the project included:
Replacing obsolete AV infrastructure in the main control room to support modern crisis management.
Designing a modular, IP-based video wall system for seamless integration across multiple control rooms.
Ensuring rapid deployment and operational readiness during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Providing redundancy and ease of maintenance for mission-critical systems.
Key Issues Solved:
Integration of Barco’s network-centric multi-screen video wall controllers and CMS software.
Dual redundant network design for all video wall IP interconnections.
Space optimization for multiple control rooms within a single building.
Wireless and hardware-based conferencing for flexible communication[1].
