Telmaco undertook the supply, design, installation, commissioning, training, and maintenance of a state-of-the-art 24/7 operational video wall system for the Thessaloniki Metro Control Center, located in the Pylaia depot.
The system supports the mission-critical needs of the Signaling ATS (Automatic Train Supervision), ensuring reliability and safety for the city’s new metro network.

On Saturday, November 30, 2024, the Thessaloniki Metro was officially opened for commercial use by the city’s residents.
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, President of the Republic Katerina Sakellaropoulou, and the leadership of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport symbolically pressed the start button at the Control Center during a ceremonial event held at the Pylaia depot.
Advanced Barco Video Wall System
The new Barco video wall consists of ten RGB laser rear-projection modules with an average continuous operating lifespan exceeding 125,000 hours—equivalent to more than 14 years of uninterrupted operation.
- Redundancy: The system is powered by two Barco control units. If the primary unit fails, the backup unit seamlessly takes over in less than 5 seconds.
- Operational Flexibility: Operators can manage and edit displayed content in real time or through pre-saved layouts. Functions include powering projection units on/off, switching between control units, and more—ensuring reliability for mission-critical transport operations.
Upgraded Video Wall at Athens Metro
In October 2024, Telmaco also upgraded the video wall at the Syntagma Metro Control Center in Athens, operated by STASY S.A.
The previous display system, in continuous use since 2011, was replaced with a new Barco system of twenty RGB laser rear-projection modules, identical in technology to the Thessaloniki installation.
Like Thessaloniki, the Athens system is supported by a redundant array of two Barco control units and offers the same advanced functionality through Barco applications.
